An air traffic controller is a person who controls the traffic in air spaces. An air traffic controller will control the traffic mainly between the airports.Once they reach the airport they will hand over to the tower controllers for smooth and easy landing and take off . They give information on air paths and will ensure a smooth ride in busy air spaces. They make use of the technologies and radars while giving them messages. They will always have a close connection with the pilots in the cock pit. Every sector is controlled by a single air traffic controller.

An air traffic controller must have the right presence of mind to manage the traffic control, a controllers carelessness can sometimes cost the life of hundreds of passengers. They must also be excellent in problem solving skills to manage emergency situations in air spaces and to make quick decisions . They will have to work during late night hours managing the air traffic. Those who wish to work as a Air Traffic Controller (ATC) must pass the ATC entrance exam after an engineering degree , if you pass the test you will send to the Civil Aviation Training College for further training in ATC.

Air Traffic Controller Eligibility

To learn the Air Traffic Controller course one must owe an engineering degree in electronics   telecommunication, radio engineering, or electrical with first class. Or, a master’s in electronics or any discipline with electronics, telecom, and radio physics, as specialization subjects.

Air Traffic Controller Recruitment Process

Step 1 To become an air traffic controller one must earn engineering degree in electronics, telecommunication, radio engineering or in electrical engineering.

Step 2 If you have the required academic qualification then you must pass the ATC exam conducted by the Airports Authority of India.

Step 3 If you pass the exam then you will have to appear for Voice test and medical test

Step 4 If you fulfill all the criteria then you will be send to the Civil aviation Training Institute.

Air Traffic Controller Career Prospects

An Air Traffic Controller will get multi opportunities in the sectors like Indian Air Force ,Indian Navy ,ISRO ,Hindustan Aeronautics Limited ,Flying Clubs etc .Otherwise an ATC can work in airports private and public controlling the traffic in the air space as well as in the runways.

Air Traffic Controller Salary

An air traffic controller will get a salary of Rs 45000-Rs 50,000 in the starting days of their career. After few years an ATC can get a salary up to Rs 1,50,000 per month.
