A dentist is a person who looks after the dental health of a person. Dentistry is also concerned with the health and appearance of the oral cavity which includes tongue, teeth, gums, jaw and as well as the jaw bones. A dentist will have plenty of areas to specialize on they are orthodontics, periodontics , endodontic and pediatric dentistry .There is also no doubt that dentistry will fall out in years  because it is a field where there is need very frequent. People go to a dentist for teeth whitening, root canal , tooth cavities which can happen to any person any time. Orthodontics has become a very demanding field where it is concerned with the alignment of teeth and jaws.

It is a four year dental course which will expose you to the dental research and its technologies. The medical course will teach you to be a dentist and treat the patients and giving the best to the oral need of the country. 

Dentist Eligibility

To study dentistry in one must pass the NEET Medical entrance for Bachelor of Dentistry. Aside from passing the NEET exam , the student must also have passed 12th std with major subjects like Physics , Chemistry , Mathematics and Biology with a minimum pass mark of 55%.

Dentist Recruitment Process

Step 1 To be a dentist one must pass the NEET medical entrance

Step 2 After you pass the entrance exam one can join a good dental college for a course in BDS.

Step 3 The course for dentistry in India is for 5 years along with house surgency .

Step 4 If you wish to you can also do your masters in dental science (MDS)

A dentist can work as a general dentist where he will take care of general treatments like teeth whitening, fluoride treatments, cavity fillings etc. Orthodontist is another profession where a dentist is focused on jaw alignment and the position of the teeth. Periodontist and Oral Maxillofacial surgeon are some of the other options practiced by a dentist .

Dentists get paid in the range of 3-6 lacs per annum based on the skills and experience.
