Hepatology is considered to be the subspecialty of gastroenterology, which focuses on the entire digestive system and related disorders and its functions. However, hepatology is a rapidly expanding field due to the appearance of liver diseases and its cures. Hepatologists  have specialist experience in management of the liver and the biliary systems .All gastroenterologists have the basic level of understanding of a liver , but a hepatologist has a higher has more detailed study of it . A hepatologist is a specialist who diagnosis and treats irregularities of the liver, pancreas, gall bladder, and biliary tree. It is a sub-specialty of Gastroenterology which studies the digestive systems as a whole. Serious concerns in the cases of liver such as hepatitis has shown the need of a specialist doctor like a herpetologist .

Hepatologist Eligibility

The student must pass 12th std with major subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology to write the NEET exam (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). NEET exam will determine the eligibility of a person to pursue MBBS course.

Hepatologist Recruitment Process

Step 1 Enroll for MBBS course in a recognized Medical college after passing NEET medical entrance exam.

Step 2 After finishing the course, pass the NEET PG medical entrance for Hepatology

Step 3 Complete the three years long MD Course in Hepatology.

Step 4 After completing MD you will have to pursue 3 years long DM in Hepatology course. After which you will become Hepatologist .

Hepatologist Career Prospects

A hepatologist  will work with patients that have liver problems. They can also be employed in clinics where there is exclusive treatment for livers. They can also start their own private clinics.A hepatologist can also teach in medical schools.
