Indian Navy the naval branch of the Indian Armed Forces provides various opportunities to the youths of our nation. Candidates from different professions can work with the army in different departments .The training Academy of the Indian Navy is situated at Ezhimala ,Kannur.
Students recruited from National Defense Academy Examination and Combined Defense Services are trained at the Indian Naval Academy. The details need for joining the Indian Navy is given below.
The numbers of officer posts available in various departments of the Indian Navy are:-
1)Executive
(i) General Service
Post – Executive (General Service)
As an executive in General Service you will be in foreign waters. Giving commands at the sea in voyage
Eligibility – BE/B tech in any discipline
(ii) Hydro
Post- Hydrographer
An hydrographer will venture into the areas where no sea farer has gone before. He will venture into atolls ,pristine waters and ports.
Eligibility – BE/B tech in any discipline
(iii) Pilot
Post – Pilot
The candidates chosen as pilots will work in the Naval Air Arm of India.
Eligibility –The candidate must have BE/B tech in any discipline. The person must also have taken Physics /mathematics in his 12th standard.
(iv) Observer
Post -Observer
The observers will act as airborne coordinators of maritime welfare. They will check for radars or sonic near their space.

(v) Logistic
Post -Logistics Officer
A logistics officer will be in charge of planning and in execution of a budget. He is also in charge of the day to day running of the ships.
(vi) NAIC
Post –Naval Armament Inspection Officer
Naval Armament inspection officers will be charge of the safety of the armaments in the inventory of the Indian Navy .They will assure the quality and reliability of the armaments.
Eligibility – The candidates must possess at least 60% in the BE/B tech degree from any recognized university in the streams of
(vii) Information Technology
Post – IT Officer
An IT officer will work with the Indian Navy in the field of IT.They will be in charge of the IT fabric of the Indian Navy.
Eligibility – The candidate must possess in any of the following streams such as
BE /B tech (Computer Engineering / Computer Science /IT ) / BSc( IT)
/M TECH (computer science ) /MSc (Computer ) /BCA /MCA
(viii) ATC (Air Traffic Controller)
Post – Air Traffic Control Officers
An Air Traffic Controller will control the traffic of the air space in their radars.
Eligibility – BE/B Tech in any discipline with Physics and Mathematics in 12th std.
(ix) Law
Post – Judge Advocate General
The law officers will pursue as an advocate in the courts for the navy officers. They will serve to the legal needs of the navy.
Eligibility – Candidate must possess law degree from a recognized university.
(ix) Sports
Post – Sports Entry Officer
A sports entry officer will train the officers in different sports and they will participate in various inter competitions.
Eligibility –The must have participated in Sr level national championships in the following games such as Athletics/cross country/ triathlon/ badminton/tennis / squash / handball /hockey /basketball / volleyball/ cricket/swimming/ diving /water polo
(x) Musician
Post – Musician Officer
A Musician Officer will train the Indian Navy musician band and they will perform all over te world representing the Indian Navy.
Eligibility - The person must be a graduate and must have exceptional professional ability in Music.
2) Engineering
(i) General Service
Post – Engineering (General Service)
An Engineering officer in General service will repair the equipment and parts related to Marine Engineering.
Eligibility –The person must have at least 60% marks in BE/B tech degree from any recognized university in the following streams.
(ii) Submarine
Post – Submarine Engineer Officer
A Submarine Engineer will help with the high end propulsion systems.
Eligibility – The candidate must possess at least 55% for BE/B tech degree
(iii) Naval Architecture
Post – Architectural Officer
An Architectural officer will help in designing submarines and naval crafts.
Eligibility – The candidate must possess at least 60% in BE /B tech degree from a recognized university in any of the following streams
3) Electrical
(i) General Service
Post – Electrical Officer
An Electrical Officer will maintain the combat readiness of the sophisticated missile ready system.
Eligibility – The candidate must poses at least 60% in BE/B tech degree from recognized university in the following streams
(ii)Submarine
Post –Submarine Technical Officer
A Submarine Officer will look upon the high end control and weapon systems .
Eligibility – The candidate must possess at least 55% in the BE /B tech degree scheme in any one of the following streams of
4) Education
Post – Education Officers
Education Officers will provide support and training to the navy personnel’s. They will also train the cadets that are taking B tech training at the naval academy.
Eligibility – A second class Masters Degree from a recognized university with either Physics or Mathematics and with either of subjects studied in the subsidiary level in the bachelor degree.
Or
A second class masters degree in English or Chemistry. The person who has studied Chemistry must have studies Physics at the subsidiary level in the bachelors program me .The person who has studied English must have studied Physics or Mathematics at the intermediary level.
Or
A degree in any of the disciplines Mechanical engineering / Electrical Engineering / Engineering in Computer science and technology.
Or
A second class masters degree in computer science The candidate must also have studied computer applications or computer science. They must also have studied Physics or Mathematics at their graduation level.
Or
A post graduate degree from a recognized university in the humanities stream
5) Medical
Post –Medical Officer
(i)Permanent Commission
Eligibility – Applicants must possess a medical qualification from a recognized university
(ii)Armed Forces Medical College -10 + 2 cadet entry
Eligibility – 10 + 2 with PCB not less than 60% of aggregate marks together and not less than 50% in any of these subjects.
(iii) BSc
Eligibility – Candidates are selected through a written examination on all India basis followed by an interview.
(iv) Army Dental Corps
Direct Permanent Commission – 1) BDS with at least 60% in final year
2) Students with MDS must be in possession with Permanent dental Registration certificate.
1)Through UPSC Exam
National Defense Academy and Naval Academy Exam (NDA & NA )
Candidates who have finished their plus two course with Physics , Chemistry and Maths are eligible to write the exam .The candidates can choose his option of armed forces .After the completion of course in the National Defense Academy then the candidate will be an owner of degree in Arts or Science. If he wants a technical degree from the Indian Navy then he has to write a separate exam .And after the end of 4 yrs he will be an owner of B tech degree.
2) Combined Defense Exam (UPSC Exam)
Combined Defense Exam is for the candidates who have completed their graduation from a recognized university. Candidate who passes the exam will be send to the respective academies
For training. The academies are Indian Military academy , Officers Training Academy, Air Force Academy and Naval Academy.
3) NCC Entry
Candidates who posses NCC C certificates can apply for the post of Naval Wing Senior Division.
4) Direct Entry Permanent Commission / Short Service Commission
Indian Navy recruits candidates to the other posts of Direct Entry Short Service Commission (GS (x/Hydro) tech /NA) it/Sub/ Pilot/Obs/edu/log/ATC/NAIC/law/sports and Permanent Commission (log/edu/naic/law/musician)
5) University Direct Entry Scheme
Recruit teams will be send to the technical colleges to recruit the best candidates. Candidates of seventh semester with a fair performance of 60% will be considered by the recruiting teams of the Indian Navy.
