Orthopedic Surgeon Career

An orthopedic surgeon is a physician who takes care of the treatment and diagnosis of injuries, disorders and diseases of the body’s musculoskeletal system. The system includes bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves and tendons. Orthopedic surgeons are familiar with all types of musculoskeletal system. Some of the orthopedic surgeons specialize in certain areas such as ankle, foot, elbow and shoulder, hip or knee .Orthopedic surgeons will also take care of other specific fields such as trauma, pediatrics, reconstructive surgery and sports medicine.

An orthopedic surgeon will use different methods such as physical and rehabilitative methods including surgery to rehabilitate patients having an injury or deformity. They treat conditions of like sprains, dislocations, puller muscles, scoliosis, fractures, and osteoporosis and bone tumors. Orthopedics have also benefitted from   technological advances such as joint replacement and other innovations that can be made to correct an injury inside a joint.

An orthopedist can also be a part of the team and can closely work with other health are professions in the medical field. Orthopedists are members of the teams that manage complex, multi-system trauma, and often play an important role in the organization and delivery of emergency care.

Orthopedic Surgeon Eligibility

The student must pass 12th std with major subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology to write the NEET exam (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). NEET exam will determine the eligibility of a person to pursue MBBS course.

Orthopedic Surgeon Recruitment Process

Step 1 Enroll for MBBS course in a recognized Medical college after passing NEET medical entrance exam.

Step 2 After finishing the course, pass the NEET PG medical entrance for Orthopedics  

Step 3 Complete the three years long MD Course in Orthopedics.

Orthopedic Surgeon Career Prospects

Some of the known prospects of a orthopedic are Physical therapist, orthopedics assistant, sports medicine physician, researcher and consultant. There are plenty of choices in forces as an orthopedic. Teaching at universities or entering into research is an also an option.

An orthopedic will get a starting salary of Rs 20,000-Rs 30,000. Salaries will vary according to place , professional knowledge and other factors .
