A pharmacologist is a scientist who conducts research tests new drugs on humans and animals. They make the overall plan and test it on the humans and animals after checking the parameters. They input information based on clinical results and record the outcomes, noting equipment needs, recommended dosages, possible side effects and other variables. Some pharmacologists specialize in the field of toxicology also. There are also different career paths for a pharmacologist such as clinical pharmacologists who focus on the side effects of medications. The clinical pharmacologist may be responsible for conducting ethical clinical trials, supporting the needs of the generic drug industry, providing access to safe, effective and affordable medicines, guiding their rational use, achieving millennium development goals, and supervising medicines management standards for hospital accreditation.
The student must pass 12th std with major subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology to write the NEET exam (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). NEET exam will determine the eligibility of a person to pursue MBBS course.
Step 1 Enroll for MBBS course in a recognized Medical college after passing NEET medical entrance exam.
Step 2 After finishing the course, pass the NEET PG medical entrance for Pharmacology.
Step 3 Complete the three years long MD Course in Pharmacology.
Step 4 After completing MD you will have to pursue 3 years long DM in Pharmacology course. After which you will become a Pharmacologist.
Pharmacologists conduct research on animals or humans’ .They seek chemical compounds and substances that can be used as new medications. Some focus on the side effects as well as some look at the major activities like the cardiovascular functioning. Their Job duties include planning and directing studies, standardizing drug doses, preparing research grants, and following safety procedures.
The salary of a pharmacologist will range from Rs 25,000-Rs 30,000.
