A prosthetist /Orthotist is a person who treats people with disabilities and helps them to lead a normal life with the help of a replacement or an aid. A person can lose his ability to move due to various reasons, it could be an accident, a fall or a consequence of a disease.
An Orthotist is a person who fits splints or braces to a person sometimes for support or for the easy movements. It can be a braces, a sling or a splint .They can only advise an aid with the help of a physician. An aid is needed in the case of weakened bones, disability, arthritis, replacements etc.
A prosthetist at the same time give a replacement for a limb loss. A prosthetist will take the measurements and dimensions for prostheses and will make the replacement. Prostheses are of different types, it can be customized for various purposes. It is designed and made by an experienced prosthetist.
To become a Prosthetist /Orthotist you must study the courses that offer courses in Prosthetist or Orthotist. To study the courses one must have studied 12std with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

You can work as a occupational therapist in hospitals and clinics .You can also work as a physical therapist for patients who are disabled. You can also start your own clinics and centers for replacements and aids. If you can earn good degrees in the subject you can teach in colleges
They will get a salary in the range of Rs 10,000-Rs 12,000 in the initial stage. If you are working in a busy hospital you can get monthly salary of Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000. With years of experience you can get double the amount of what you got in the inception.
