A Veterinarian is a qualified medical practitioner who treats animals and birds. They are the qualified doctors of the animals. A veterinarian can be specialized with a domestic animals as well as wild animals. There are also veterinarians who specialize in diary animals only. A veterinarian must have the heart to treat an animal. In order to practice, vets must complete both an appropriate degree in veterinary medicine and most of the cases the degree must be registered with the relevant body of their jurisdiction.

Veterinarian Eligibility

To be a veterinarian, one must pass the All India Pre –Veterinary Test (AIPVT) exam in India to get admission in a veterinary college. 

Veterinarian Recruitment Process

Step 1 You can join for BVsc course in a veterinary college for four and a half years, with a practical internship.

Step 2 MVsc can be pursued after BVsc through an all India entrance examination. The duration of master of veterinary science degree is for 2 yrs .

Veterinarian Career Prospects

Veterinarians can choose to work with the government animal husbandry departments, poultry farms, dairy farms, sheep and rabbit farms, race clubs, stud farms, private and government veterinary hospitals and clinics. Wildlife sanctuaries and zoological parks as well as aviaries need veterinarians.

The starting salary of a veterinarian will range from Rs 25,000- Rs 30,000. A veterinarian is in demand all over the country in veterinary clinics, zoological parks , dairy farms etc.
