    The Indian men's hockey team captain PR Sreejesh on Wednesday became a member of International Hockey Federation (FIH) Athletes' Committee.FIH Athletes' Committee comprises a total of eight current and former hockey players who have the responsibility to act as a liaison between the FIH and the athletes to make sure the players have voice in the FIH decision making process.

    KM Philip, 104, former whole-time director on the board of MRF, passed away.Born on May 2, 1912, Philip had served on the MRF board since its inception in 1961 till 2015. A founding member of the All India Rubber Industries Association, he who played a key role in the establishment and growth of the domestic rubber and tyre industries. The association instituted the KM Philip Medal & Award on his 90th birthday in recognition of his service.He has also served on the Rubber Board of India for more than 15 years.Philip was a Padma Shri Awardee and a noted philanthropist.

    Scientists have discovered a new species of gibbon living in south-west China's rainforests. Although scientists had been studying the primate for some time, new research has revealed it is in fact a different species. It has been named the Skywalker hoolock gibbon by its discoverers, who are Star Wars fans.

  • Second Scorpene class submarine INS Khanderi launched.

    INS Khanderi, the second Scorpene class submarine was launched at the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is the second of the six submarines being built at MDL in collaboration with France’s DCNS as part of Project 75 of Indian Navy.

    India and Kenya signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. India also announced $100 million Line of Credit (LoC) to Kenya for agricultural mechanization The agreement was signed after delegation level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kenyian President Uhuru Kenyatta in New Delhi. It was first official state visit of President from Kenya to India since 1981.

  • The world’s first ‘Gender Literature Festival’ will be held in Patna in the second week of April.

    The Gender Resource Centre of Bihar’s Women Development Corporation will be organising the festival.“The objective of this initiative is to create a platform, to exchange ideas, and to share and learn experiences of renowned people in the field of gender [-based or focussed] literature. The festival will also act as a platform to increase visibility for gender equity and advocacy in the State of Bihar,” according to Dr. N. Vijaya Lakshmi, chairperson of the festival and managing director of Bihar’s WDC.
