  • MN Rao appointed DG of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guard

    The Central government on Friday appointed M Nageswar Rao, Additional Director of CBI as the Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guard.

    As per the government order, he will continue to hold the post till superannuation in July 2020.

  • LinkedIn appoints Ashutosh Gupta as country manager for India

    LinkedIn, a social network for professionals owned by American technology company Microsoft, named Ashutosh Gupta as country manager for India, its second such appointment in six months.

    The previous country manager, Mahesh Narayanan, said he left LinkedIn to pursue other opportunities in the country’s fast-growing digital ecosystem.

    Gupta will take over in September and report to Olivier Legrand, LinkedIn’s managing director for the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Arun Kumar appointed as DGCA chief

    Arun Kumar, additional secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, will now be holding the full-time charge of the head of aviation regulator DGCA, an official order said Tuesday.

    "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Arun Kumar, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Civil Aviation as Director General in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary," said the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training.

    Kumar was heading the DGCA as an additional charge between May 31 and July 9 this year.

    Lieutenant General Shailesh Tinaikar of India assumes charge as Force Commander of United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

    Shailesh Tinaikar has been awarded the Sena Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal for Distinguished Service.

  • Rahul Dravid appointed NCA’s Head of Cricket

    Former India captain Rahul Dravid was appointed as Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Monday. In a statement released the BCCI said that Dravid will oversee all cricket related activities at NCA and will be involved in mentoring, coaching, training and motivating players, coaches and support staff at the NCA.

  • Nalin Shinghal appointed CMD of BHEL

    State-owned engineering and manufacturing enterprise BHEL Tuesday said Nalin Shinghal has been appointed as its Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). "On his appointment as CMD of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Dr Nalin Shinghal, has assumed charge as CMD of India's largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise of its kind," BHEL said in a statement.

    Prior to joining BHEL, he was the Chairman and Managing Director of Central Electronics Limited (CEL).

    B Harideesh Kumar has been appointed as director of Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for a period of three years.

    He took charge recently. Earlier, he was Executive Director of Canara Bank and brings with him a lot of domain related experience in the banking sector.

  • Ursula von der Leyen elected as next EU president

    The EU’s new president-elect Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday made her first trip to Brussels since being nominated, as senior officials sought to shore up support for her appointment in the European Parliament.

    Current German defence minister von der Leyen met Jean-Claude Juncker, the man she is to replace as European Commission president, for talks a day after pledging to present her “vision for the next five years for Europe” within a fortnight.

  • N S Vishwanathan gets extension by one year as RBI deputy governor

    Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor N S Vishwanathan has been given a one-year extension by the government, according to an official announcement by the Ministry of Personnel.

    Vishwanathan was to retire on July 3, but before that could happen, another Deputy Governor Viral Acharya quit. Acharya’s resignation was accepted by the ministry last week. The government and the RBI had started looking for a replacement of Vishwanathan and a few internal candidates were identified, according to sources.

  • Manoj Kumar Nambiar elected chairman of MFIN

    Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN) has elected Manoj Kumar Nambiar, managing director of Arohan Financial Services, as its chairman.

    Vineet Chattree of Svatantra Microfin will be the vice-chairman, the industry association and self-regulatory organisation (SRO) for the microfinance industry in India said.
