  • Sanjay Kothari appointed as new Central Vigilance Commissioner

    Sanjay Kothari has been selected as the new Central Vigilance Commissioner by a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is presently served as the Secretary to the President. The Central Vigilance Commission is an-corruption watchdog with autonomous status.

    Other Appointments:

    • The committee has also chosen former Information and Broadcasting Secretary Bimal Julka as the new Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission.  He is currently serving as an Information Commissioner. The Central Information Commission was constituted under the Right to Information Act and has jurisdiction over all central public authorities.
    • The panel also decided by majority the appointment of Suresh Patel as Vigilance Commissioner and Anita Pandove as Information Commissioner.
  • Bhaskar Khulbe & Amarjeet Sinha have been appointed as Advisers to PM

    The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers Amarjeet Sinha and Bhaskar Khulbe as the Advisers to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The appointments of the retired administrative officers has been made on contractual basis. Both the officers are from the 1983 batch, Bhaskar Khulbe from the West Bengal Cadre while Amarjeet Sinha from the Bihar Cadre.

  • Australia appoints Barry O’Farrell as new high commissioner to India

    Australia has appointed Barry O’Farrell as the next high commissioner to India. He will succeed Harinder Sidhu who has been in the office since 2016. O’Farrell served in the New South Wales Parliament from 1995-2015. He has served as NSW’s special envoy for India and made a significant contribution as the deputy chair of the Australia India Council Board. India is a significant trading partner of Australia, with 2-way investment valued of 30.7 billion dollars & around 700,000 people of Indian Origin were living in Australia.

  • Vinay Dube becomes GoAir new CEO

    GoAir has appointed Vinay Dube, the former chief executive officer (CEO) of Jet Airways, as its new CEO. He will be responsible for the management of the airline and also for meeting the goals and long-term growth objectives of the company. The budget airline did not have a CEO since the departure of Cornelis Vrieswijk in March last year.

    Earlier, Dube has served as Senior Vice President-Asia Pacific at Delta Air Lines, CEO at Delta Technology LLC, Vice President-Consulting & Marketing Solutions at Sabre Airline Solutions, among other positions.

  • C N R Nair has been appointed by Supreme Court to make inventory of ornaments at Sabarimala temple

    The Supreme Court of India has appointed retired Kerala High Court judge C N Ramachandaran Nair to formulate an inventory and valuation report of ornaments at Sabarimala temple. The SC has allowed the former judge to take assistance of a jeweller for the proper valuation of the sacred ornaments. He is also advised to file the report in sealed cover.

    The Sabarimala temple is located at Sabarimala inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, India. Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. This temple is the most famous and prominent among all the Sastha temples in Kerala.

  • Pinelopi Koujianou has resigned from the World Bank as the chief economist

    Chief Economist of the World Bank(WB) Pinelopi Koujianou Goldberg announced her resignation. She will step down from her post on March 1, 2020, and will be teaching at Yale University in Connecticut, United States(US). WB research director Aart Kraay will be the interim WB chief economist until the appointment of a new permanent chief economist. Pinelopi took over as the chief economist of WB succeeding Paul Romer at the end of April 2018.

  • Kerala cadre IAS officer to head UN tourism body

    Kerala cadre senior IAS officer Suman Billa is set to join the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) at its headquarters in Madrid, Spain. He will take charge next week as Director, Technical Cooperation and Silk Road Development at the D1 level at UNWTO, a specialised agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.

  • Devendra Fadnavis announces to resign as Maharashtra CM

    Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis announced his resignation after the Supreme Court asked him to face a floor-test to test the strength of his BJP-led government’s position. His deputy, Ajit Pawar of the NCP, had resigned minutes before.

  • Devendra Fadnavis takes oath as CM of Maharashtra

    Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP has taken oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister for a second time. Ajit Pawar of the NCP has also taken oath as Deputy Chief Minister. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered the oath to the two leaders.

    The BJP and NCP have formed an alliance to give a new government to Maharashtra after nearly a month-long wait after the results.

  • Sudhir Mital elected president of Gymnastics Federation of India

    Former Competition Commission of India chairman Sudhir Mital and Shantikumar Singh were elected as president and general secretary respectively, of the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI).

    Sudhir Mital is a retired IAS officer of Punjab cadre, was also a former president and worked as GFI chief from 2003 to 2007. He served as chairman of Competition Commission of India (CCI) in 2018 after joining the organization in 2014 as a member. Shantikumar was a former national level gymnast from Manipur, had served as GFI treasurer from 2011 to 2015 and then got elected as secretary in the 2015 elections.
