Chhattisgarh CM Launch Mobile Distribution Scheme 'Mobile Tihar'
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, along with National Award-winning actress Kangana Ranaut, on Monday launched a smartphone distribution scheme, 'Mobile Tihar', under the Sanchar Kranti Yojna (SKY).
The scheme is for distribution of smartphones to women and students, covering over 50 Lakh beneficiaries.
Rajasthan Signs MoU For The 1st Cow Sanctuary in State
Rajasthan will soon have its first ‘cow sanctuary’, a shelter for 10,000 bovines spread over an area of more than 220 hectares in Bikaner district. The state government on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a private trust in this regard, during Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s visit to Bikaner. The cow sanctuary will be the latest in a string of initiatives announced by the BJP government in the state for the protection of bovines since it came to power in 2013. The state already has a ministry dedicated to the welfare of cows and last year it had announced a 10 per cent surcharge on stamp duty towards cow protection.
US Elevated India’s Status To STA-1 To Ease Export Controls For High-Tech Product Sales
India today welcomed the US' decision to ease export controls for high technology product sales to it, saying the move will further boost collaboration between the two countries in defence and certain other areas. The Trump administration announced yesterday granting India the status of Strategic Trade Authorization-1 (STA-1) country, the only South Asian nation to be given the designation along with the US' NATO allies like South Korea, Australia and Japan.
Scientists Discover New Shape 'Scutoid' From Human Cells
Scientists have discovered a new shape called scutoid while studying nature’s way of moulding tissue to form the skin, cavity linings and the building blocks of organs.
The shape has five sides on one end and six on the other and a triangular surface on one of its longer edges. Scientists have referred to it as a twisted prism kind of shape that allows the tissue to mould around organs.
Epithelial tissue, one of the four kinds of tissue that forms the human body, is composed of epithelial cells packed together in a particular formation that has been given a nifty name: scutoid.
1st Nepal-India Think Tank Summit Begins in Kathmandu
The first 'Nepal-India Think Tank' Summit to foster greater collaboration and knowledge-sharing among the think tanks of the two countries was held in Kathmandu today.
Former Prime Minister of Nepal and Co-Chairman of ruling Nepal Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' inaugurated the summit. In his address Mr. Prachanda said that recent reciprocal visits of prime ministers of both the countries have created a fresh momentum in overall spectrum of bilateral relations.
He also said that initiative of executing all bilateralagreements and understandings has generated a new wave of enthusiasm in Nepal. Delivering the key note address Bharatiya Janata Party General Secretary and Director, India Foundation Ram Madhav said that India is committed to support Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli's ambitious development agenda.
Reliance Beats TCS to Become India's Most Valued Company
India's richest person Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) beat Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to become the most valued company in India.
RIL's market capitalisation during the day was Rs7.44 trillion as compared to TCS' Rs7.39 trillion. RIL had recently reported its highest ever quarterly net profit of Rs9,459 crore, for the April-June quarter.

Surendra Rosha Named HSBC India CEO
Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp Ltd (HSBC) on Monday appointed Surendra Rosha as its India CEO replacing Jayant Rikhye who is on leave due to medical reasons.
50 year old Rosha, a career HSBC banker, is currently head of HSBC's financial institutional group (FIG) for the Asia-Pacific region.
His appointment is subject to regulatory approvals.
Renu Satti Quits As Paytm Payments Bank CEO
Paytm Payments Bank CEO Renu Satti has resigned from the role and will now head Paytm’s new retail initiative.
Paytm will look for a replacement for Ms. Satti, who had taken over the CEO role last year.
