Germany Navy Frigate Bayern F217 arrived in Mumbai, India in a rare port call on January 21, 2022. The German warship was received at the Mumbai port by German Ambassador to India Walter J Lindner and Maharashtra's Minister for protocol, Tourism, and Environment Aditya Thackeray. The last time a German ship docked in India was almost 9 years ago when German Fregatte "Bremen" had docked in 2012.

India observes the Statehood Day of Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya every year on January 21. The day marks an important historical event when the North East Reorganisation Act, 1971 was implemented providing statehood to the three states.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has been named as the captain of the ICC Test Team of the year 2021. Williamson had led New Zealand to victory in the first-ever World Test Championship final against India at Southampton, England.

India will yet again face Pakistan in its first match of the T20 World Cup 2022. The schedule for T20 World Cup 2022 was announced on January 21, 2022. India will begin its campaign on October 23, 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). India had opened its campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 as well against Pakistan.
