Indian Engineering Service (IES)

 Indian Engineering Services is one of the toughest examinations held in our country. The exam is conducted by UPSC by a combined exam called the Engineering Services Exam .A Graduate in engineering or any other qualifications notified by UPSC can apply for the exam.

Candidates passing out through Engineering Services can start their career from reputed government departments such as Military Engineering Services, Central engineering Services, Indian railways, Telecommunication department among others. Recruitment is done in the four main categories of Mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Electronic and Telecommunication engineering.

Some of the famous personalities who have passed IES examinations are E Sreedharan(metro man of India),R K Pachauri ,Ashwani lohani etc. Lakhs of applicants apply every year but only a few make it to the final dais.

Notification

The notification for the Indian Engineering services are issued by the Union Public Service Commission .The notification will contain all the details of the exam, centers, fee and syllabus.

Educational Qualification

The candidates who wish to apply for Indian engineering service must possess the following qualifications:-

1) A degree in Engineering from a recognized university.

2) He /she must have passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India)

3) Obtained a degree diploma from any recognized institute of our country.

4) He/she must have passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India)

5) He/she must have passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India

 6) He/she must have passed   Graduate   Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959

Age Limit

The candidates who wish to apply for the exam of Indian Engineering Service must be at least 21 yrs old and a maximum of 30 yrs of age.

Age Relaxations

The age for the candidate will be relaxed to 35 yrs of age if he/she belongs to the reserved categories recognized by the government.

Exam Fee

Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/ PH who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs.200/ either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash or by using net banking facility of  State  Bank  of India or  by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit card.

UPSC conducts exam in four categories of Civil engineering, Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication engineering .The selection of the candidate is based on the I Prelims test, II Mains test and the III Interview.
