Christian College, Kattakada was established in 1965. The college is managed by the society for Higher Education of the SIUC community of the Church of South India registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955 (S.No. 143 of 1977) Affiliated to the University of Kerala and recognised by the University Grants Commission, the college is located in a sprawling area of rustic land in the Poovachal Panchayat area under Nedumangad taluk, 20km east of Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala State, South India. Ours is a first grade post-graduate college offering Degree courses in Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, History, Economics, Commerce & Computer Application, and Post Graduate courses in Botany, Physics & Chemistry. We also have Political Science, English Hindi, Malayalam and Physical Education departments.
The building complex consists of science block, arts block, administrative block, library block, information center, canteen, seminar hall and a spacious auditorium Hostel accommodation is available for lady students and staff. Day scholars can avail the facilities of the college buses for their journey to and fro. Rt. Rev. A.Dharmaraj Rasalam, the Bishop of the Diocese is the Chairman and manager of the College.The principal of the College is Dr.E.Valsalakumar and Dr.T.Rajesh is the College Bursar.
HISTORY
Established in the year 1965 on July 22, Christian College Kattakada is located in the Poovachal panchayat area under Nedumangad taluk, 20 kms from the city of Thiruvananthapuram.Rev.Legg, the erstwhile Bishop of South Kerala Diocese, was the founder of the college.Started as a junior college affiliated to the University of Kerala, Christian Collegeis now looked up on as the outcome of the aspirations, prayers, sacrifices, sweat and toil of the SIUC community of the South Kerala Diocese. It was through a series of challenging ordeals that this institution came to attain its present status. Upgraded in 1976-77 to an Arts and Science college offering undergraduate courses, this institution offers today Degree courses in Botany, Commerce, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry,Zoology, History and Economics, and Post-Graduate courses in Botany, Physics and Chemistry.The college was accredited by the NACC in 2011vand was awarded a B grade.Christian College, Kattakada has had able academicians and administrators at its helm from the very early days of its inception.
The Rt. Rev. V. William, Most.Rt. Rev. Dr. I. Jesudasan, Rt. Rev. Dr. Samuel Amritham and the Most.Rt. Rev.Dr. J. W. Gladstone were the former chairpersons of the college. The Rt. Rev. A. Dharmaraj Rasalam, Bishop of the South Kerala Diocese, is the present chairperson and manager.The founder manager of the college was Rev. James William Rasalam, who was followed by such eminent personalities as Sri. T. Y. Harris, Sri. T. N. Rasalam IPS (Rtd), Sri. Chellathurai Raja,Rev.Dr. G. Robinson, Rev. Selvaraj and Prof A S Ben Roy.
The developmental activities of the college gained a fresh momentum with the arrival of the Most Rev. Dr. J. W. Gladstone as its manager.His tenure saw an academic renaissance, with unprecedented enhancement of facilities and the introduction of new courses, including the very first PG course in the college. The work was continued by Sri. I Clement, Adv. E. J. Vijayadas, Dr. Bennet Abraham, Rev. Dr. G. Sobhanam, Rev. Dr. Ben Gladston, Rev.D.Selvarajan.
The college was also graced by an array of dedicated and scholarly principals starting from Prof.P. G. Edwin, the founder principal. The work he initiated was carried on with equal zeal by Prof.B. B. Arumai Raj,Prof. J. Ross Chandran, Prof. J. Lidson Raj, Dr. J. Nehemiah, Dr. D. Christudas,Prof. H.Esha Bose, Prof. S. Janet and Dr.M.J.Selvadas. Dr. E Valsalakumar is the present principal of the college. With its sound infrastructure, academic atmosphere and motivated teachers, the college has ever striven for the holistic development of its students. We affirm our commitment to the society, moulding our students into worthy citizens. We lay our trust on Almighty God that, He would guide and strengthen us and our college in this noble venture.
