Dr.S.Gopalaraju Government First Grade College at Anekal is the only Government Institution located at the Borders of Karnataka and Tamilnadu imparting the higher educational needs of Rural Students. It was in the year 1980 that the institution took its birth by the efforts of local educational aspirants. The generous contribution of an NRI Dr.S.Gopalaraju has been acknowledged by his name associated with the college as Dr.S.Gopalaraju Government First Grade College.
The College is accommodating an overall strength of 700 students pursuing various Graduate Degrees in the streams of BA/BCOM/BBM under the able guidance and supervision of well versed teaching and non-teaching staff. Thus the institution caters to the student’s overall development in the social, cultural, academic, physical and economical arena in making them individually responsible citizens of our Nation.The Institution is affiliated to Bangalore University and offers BA/BCOM/BBM/BCA Courses for the rural and backward stake-holders, presiding in the borders of Karnataka and Tamilnadu.
Anekal is a semi-urban area which is considered as an important Taluk Head Quarters in Bangalore Urban District. GajaShilapura is the former name of Anekal Town. The origin of the name Anekal (Hail-Stone) is not known. It lies in the Southern part of the Bangalore Metropolitan area, around 35 Kms from Bangalore. Anekal is known for Karaga festival and a number of ancient temples. Muthyalamadu is a small picnic spot, with a waterfall and is 5 Kms away from the town
Anekal is famous for floriculture and Ragi. Ragi is the staple food supporting Agricultural fraternity and is called as “Ragiya Kanaja” which means Ragi Depot of Karnataka State.
