Govt. Arts and Science College Malappuram started its educational exodus during the academic year 2015-2016 at the temporary premises of Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, C.H Muhammed Koya Educational Complex Malappuram. The College owes its origin to Mr. P. Ubaidulla’s maiden speech at Kerala Legislative Assembly demanding a women’s college in order to cater the higher education needs of girls at Malappuram District. The first words about the College have appeared in the Budget speech of erstwhile Finance Minister of Kerala, Sri. KM Mani who promised that a women’s College be started at Malappuram Assembly Constituency of Malappuram District.
The operational horizon of GWC was expanded by starting the College on 28 September 2015, the date in which the Keralites commemorate the demise of Janab. C H Muhammed Koya (the former Chief Minister and MLA of Malappuram Constituency), who had fought for women education.
The College entered to a new phase on 04/03/2016, the day in which it was officially inaugurated by Mr. Oommen Chandy, the Chief Minister of Kerala, in the presence of Mr. P.K Kunhalikkutty (Hon. Minister for I T and Industries), Mr. P.K Abdurabb (Hon. Minister for Education), Mr. A.P Anil Kumar (Hon. Minister for S.C and Tourism) and other legislators and dignitaries along with a jubilant audience comprising parents, students, media men and local public.
