Government First Grade College, Hosadurga is the only under graduate college in the entire Hosadurga Taluk vicinity. The institution is situated in rural and educationally backward area and densely populated with backward, socio-economically poor community. It was started with BA and B.Com courses during 1982 in a hired Municipal building of a dozen rooms with not more than hundred students. Later it was upgraded with B.Sc. Course in the interest of the public and students in the year 1983 and BBM during 2005. After 19 years of its existence in a hired building, the college was moved to its own building situated outside the town.
Constructed on a sprawling area of 10 acres (with constructed area of 3319 Square met), the college has 18 class rooms, a built-in library, a computer, Physics and Chemistry laboratories and three staff rooms. The main building is supported by a sports ground and an adjacent stadium (belongs to department of sports and youth service). At present this college houses four UG programmes BA, B.Sc., B.Com and BBM and two PG programmes (MA in History and M.Com) in its own 10 acres campus. More than 15,000 students have obtained their degrees from this college. 2,583 students are learning in this college. Since majority of the students are from rural sides, top priority is given to achieve and ensure academic excellence among them. Yet, the college has been growing from strength to strength as is evidenced by the growing number of programmes that are on offer.
The college was given the 2(f) status on January 1994 and was granted 12(B) recognition by UGC on February 2004. The college has two NSS units with each 100 volunteers enrolled and also have Scouts & guides, rovers & rangers wing and red cross unit. The college was accredited by NAAC in 2003 with C++ and re-accredited with C with CGPA-1.9 during 2009. At present the college is affiliated to Davangere University; hence it works according to the academic calendar of events prescribed by it.
