The college started functioning during the academic year 2010-11. It is run by Sree Narayana Guru Trust constituted by the SNDP Yogam, Kottayam Union. The trust is committed to the objectives of promoting equality, fraternity and secularism based on the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru. Committed to charitable and social work in noble ways, ensuring the betterment of the marginalized sections of the society. The trust upholds the philosophy of ‘Progress Through Education’ and ‘Emancipation for all’, through it.
The Sree Narayana Guru Trust keeps the words and deeds of the great philosopher and visionary, Sree Narayana Guru close to its bosom and domain of action while positioning the Gurudeva Institute of Science and Technology (GISAT) at Vennimala, Kottayam-11 as a seat of enlightenment and a platform to impart quality education in the technical arena, at an affordable expense.
GISAT offers B.Tech Degree programme in five branches of engineering; viz, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering. The intake in each branch is 60. Engineering diploma holders are admitted to the third semester of the B.Tech course under the lateral entry scheme.
We started Master of Technology courses during 2014-15 in the following disciplines viz. 1. Communication Engg. and 2. Computer Science with Cyber Security. We had tie up with Toyo University, Tokyo, Japan.
G I S A T is located in a beautiful landscape of 12 acres at Vennimala, about 10 km east of Kottayam town. The scenery of the surroundings creates an ideal atmosphere for learning and an eco-friendly environment for creative thinking as well as entertainment. Vennimala is depicted with several legends.The famous Kapila Maharshi is believed to have lived in this famous hill. Taking the order of Lord Rama, his brother Lakshmana defeated the demons who harassed the ascetics lived here. Hence, this place is also known as ‘Vijayadri’. History says that Vennimala Rama Lakshmana temple was built under the instruction of Cherman Perumal Kulasekhara Varma. Shadkala Govinda Marar the legend of Sopana Sangeetham and Edakka also spent most part of his illustrious days in this holy temple of Vennimala.
