Holy Cross Collge of Nursing is attached to Holy Cross Hospital, Kottiyam. The institute aims at developing women through nursing education by upholding catholic doctrines. The College is recognized by INC, Government of Kerala, KNC and was affiliated to the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram in 2002. It was affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur, during the year 2009.
It started to be viable with full function from the very beginning with curricular and co-curricular activities under the expert leadership of Sr. M. Consolata Pampackal first Principal and Sr. Fatima Puthenthoppil the second principal.
At present, Sr. Doris Mookanamparampil serves as the Principal of the college and Sr. Jane Francis as the Vice- principal with a team of dedicated faculty and Staff. The Holy Cross campus is vast and provides adequate facilities for the all round development of the students.
‘Lead Kindly light’ is the motto of Holy Cross College of Nursing.
Higher education and holistic formation of young women as nurses by commitment towards excellence in quality care in order to achieve holistic healing, and contribute to the transformation of society.
The Faculty of the Holy Cross College of Nursing, Kottiyam believe that :
1. Every human being has the potential to develop intellectually, psychosocially, spiritually and physically if the environment is favorable.
2. Professional knowledge, skill and attitude can be enhanced only through higher levels of education.
3. Nursing is a profession, the essence of which is caring. Caring is a science, art and vocation which is accomplished with wisdom, knowledge, skill, competence and compassion.
4. Higher education in nursing ( BSc, MSc & PhD) can empower the nurse and help her to blossom into a confident, self reliant, responsible and professional individual who can be a source of strength to her family, community and country.
5. The challenges of today’s sophisticated health care system can be faced only through added scientific knowledge, professional skill and the willingness to do research for betterment.
On completion of the nursing program, the graduate is expected to :
1. Provide professional nursing care to individuals and families in any kind of health care setting applying scientific principles and nursing process.
2. Demonstrate leadership qualities and management skills in problem solving and decision making at various levels of professional practice.
3. Demonstrate basic skills in teaching, administration, supervision, research and therapeutic communication.
4. Develop motivation for ongoing learning for one’s own personal and professional improvement.
5. Practice ethical and moral values and principles in one’s personal and professional life.
6. Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternating systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
7. Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
8. Provide promotive, preventive, curative and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programs.
