John Paul Memorial B.Ed. College, Labbakkada is a self-financing College of Education, affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and Approved by National Council for Teacher Education (N.C.T.E) and recognized by government of kerala, established in 2008. It is a brain child of the visionaries and missionaries of the St. Joseph's Province of CST Fathers, Aluva. This is a period of knowledge explosion and intellectual triumph. The main objective of the NCTE is to achieve planned and coordinated development of the teacher education system throughout the country, the regulation and proper maintenance of Norms and Standards in the teacher education system and for matters connected therewith. The mandate given to the NCTE is very broad and covers the whole gamut of teacher education programmes including research and training of persons for equipping them to teach at pre-primary, primary, secondary and senior secondary stages in schools, and non-formal education, part-time education, adult education and distance (correspondence) education courses.
A vision translated into action becomes a mission. It is the vision and mission of the college to impart quality education to the land-locked hence marginalized young ones of a migrant population. Good education is the key to the magic world of opportunities in todays global village. This had to be accessible to the people of the High Ranges, which is incandescent with the fragrance of coffee, tea, pepper and cardamom. The word which was at the beginning had to be transferred and planted in this fertile soil so that it took life and lived and expressed itself in fecundity. Aptly enough, the motto of the college is “Lighted to Enlighten”. To borrow a phrase from the erstwhile President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the vision and mission of the college is to ignite unignited young minds so that they can go forth as torch bearers to the world.
