The Archdiocese of Thrissur was bifurcated in order to have better coordination and to attend to the pastoral needs of the people which was the background of instituting the diocese of Irinjalakuda. The new diocese was instituted in the year 1978 and Mar James Pazhayattil was appointed as its first Bishop. At that time there were no hospitals and not even a dispensary under the administrative set up of Irinjalakuda diocese. As time went waiting for nobody, an occasion came up to remember and celebrate the sacerdotal Silver Jubilee of Bishop Mar James Pazhayattil. A meeting of the selected laities and priests of Irinjalakuda Diocese was discuss and finalize a project to commemorate this occasion. The meeting was an opinion that a project which will ultimately benefit for all, more particularly it should be aimed at to uplift the down trodden, and orphaned. After long discussions and lengthy deliberations the novel idea of start up a hospital was accepted by the committee.
