A vessel contains a mixture of milk and water in the respective ratio of 5 : 1 : 24 litre of mixture was taken out and replaced with the same quantity of milk so that the resultant ratio between the quantities of milk and water in the mixture was 13:2 respectively. • Explanation:

    Let the total quantity of the mixture in vessel = 6x

    In 24 litre of mixture,

    Milk = 5/6×24 = 20 litre

    Water = 24 -20 = 4 litre

    According to question,

    5x-20+24/x-4=13/2

    5x+4/x-4= 13/2

    10x+8 = 13x-52

    x=20 litre

    Again in 15 litre of mixture,

    Milk = 15×13/15 = 13 litre

    Water = 15-13 = 2 litre

    ∴ Resultant quantity of milk in the mixture

    = 5x-20+24-13

    =5x-9=20×5-9

    =91 litre
