Rohan travelling at a speed of ‘X’ km/h took 2 hours 30 min to cover 2/3rd of the distance. Travelling at a speed of ‘X+2’ km/h, he took 50 min to cover the remaining 1/3rd of the same distance. What was the total distance

  • 21 km
  • 15 km
  • 30 km
  • 24 km
  • 9 km
  • Explanation:

    Let total distance = 3 y km

    According to question,

    Speed×Time = Distance

    x×5/2 = 3y×2/3

    x×5/2=2y

    5x=4y                .....(i)

    Again,

    (x+2)×50/60=y

    (x+2)×5=6y        ......(ii)

    On dividing equation (ii) by equation (i), we get

    (x+2)×5/5x= 6y/4y

    x+2/x=3/2

    3x= 2x+4

    x=4

    From equation (i),

    5×4 = 4y

    ⇒         y=5

    ∴ Total distance = 3y = 3×5

    = 15 km
