Two equal circles are drawn in square in such a way that a side of the square forms diameter of each circle. If the remaining area of the square is 42 cm2, how much will the diameter of the circle measures? (in cm)

  • 3.5
  • 4
  • 14
  • 7.5
  • 21
  • Explanation:

    Here, AB and CD are diameters.

    Let AB = 2x cm

    ∴ Radius of circle = x cm

    ∴ Area of remaining part of the square

    = (2x)2-Πx2 = 4x2-Πx2

    According to question,

    4x2-Πx2=42

    x2[4-22/7] = 42

    x2×6/7 = 42

    x2=49

    x = 7cm

    Diameter of circle = 7×2 = 14 cm
