The speed of a boat in still water is 15 km/h and the speed of the current is 3 km/h. The distance travelled by the boat from point A to point B downstream is 24 km more than the distance covered by the same boat from point B to point C upstream in the same time. How much time will the boat take to travel from C to B downstream

  • 2 hours 30 min
  • 2 hours 40 min
  • 2 hours 10 min
  • 3 hours 20 min
  • 2 hours
  • Explanation:

    Downstream speed of boat =15+3 = 18km/h

    Upstream speed of boat=15-3=12km/h

    Let BC=xkm

    AB =(x+24)km

    According to question,

    x+24/18=x/12

    2x+48=3x

    x=48km

    ஃ Time taken by boat to travel from C to B downstream

    =48/18 hours

    =8/3 hours = 2hours 12/18×60min

    = 2 hours 40 min
