National Institution for Transforming India or NITI Aayog is the Think-Thank established by the Government of India to replace the Planning Commission.It was formed to have a bold say in the social and economic development of India.The Union Government of India announced the formation of NITI Aayog on 1 January,2015 and held its first meeting on 8th ,February,2015.The Prime Minister serves as the Ex-Officio Chairman of NITI Aayog.
History
Government of India decided to scrap Planning Commission after the report supported by the Independant Evaluation Commission on 14th May,2014. On 14th August, 2014 the Union government replaced the Planning Commission with National Advisory Council of India.On 1st January,2015 cabinet resolution was passed to replace Planning Commisssion and to form National Instituition for Transforming India or NITI Aayog.
