Open Guide – Plant pathology is the scientific study of diseases in plants. A plant pathologist studies the plants and rescues them out of diseases. He studies the different viruses and bacteria which affects plants. He finds out the reasons and loopholes in the genes of the plants which causes diseases. . He also develops solutions to prevent it from various diseases.
A plant pathologist is a friend of farmer .A plant pathologist studies the frequent diseases that affects the plants and harvest of the farmer. He in turn develops pesticides which protects the plants from deadly diseases.
Plant pathologist keeps the plants very healthy .With simple remedies they can help us grow our favorite plants without being affected by any diseases. Only if we protect our plants from pests they can bear flowers and fruits.
The population of our nation is multiplying day by day .The food in our go godown is insufficient to feed the huge population .Therefore, plant pathologists have come to the forefront with bt vegetables. A bt vegetable or a Bacillus Thurengiensis vegetables have injected genes from the birth, which can resist pests and viruses. It has helped the farmers in achieving mass production in the field of production. It will help the nation in feeding the growing population.
It is a very challenging career who is interested with agriculture and its allied products. Plant pathology is very emerging career as said in the above paragraphs that is needed to feed the growing population. 3) After completing graduation in plant pathology, students can enroll for masters inn plant pathology .Admission to masters can be attained through All India Combined Entrance and state level entrance examinations conducted separately .
The entrance is conducted by ICAR and and also provides JRF scholarship to students.
A Plant Pathologist can mainly be employed in a R and D lab run by state and central agencies. A plant pathologist can be employed either in a public or private sector. He can also work as a professor in colleges if he /she have passed the NET exam. Other jobs for a plant pathologist are teaching assistant, JRF fellow, Post Graduate Trainee, Assistant Professor etc.
The salary of a plant pathologist will vary according to the persons experience and the college of pass out. If the person has good academic excellence then he /she will get good companies to work at .In the initial years the candidate will get a salary of 12000 – 15,000 .With age and experience the amount will be higher .If you can get employed in state research centers you can draw a lum sum salary.
