Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘VAYU’ Over East-Central Arabian

The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘VAYU’ over East-central Arabian Sea moved nearly northwards with a speed of about 13 kmph in last six hours and lay centred over East-central Arabian Sea, about 470 km west-northwest of Goa, 280 km south-southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra) and 340 km nearly south of Veraval (Gujarat).

It is very likely to move nearly northwards and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva around Veraval & Diu region as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed 145-155 kmph gusting to 170 kmph around morning of 13th June 2019.

Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘TITLI’ Hits West-Central Bay of Bengal

The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘TITLI’ over the west-central Bay of Bengal moved northwards with a speed of about 14 kmph over Westcentral Bay of Bengal near latitude 16.5°N and longitude 85.8°E, about 320 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 270 km southeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). 

Government Reconstitutes Top Court-Powered Pollution Control Panel 

The Centre has reconstituted Supreme Court-empowered Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority or the EPCA, which is tasked with taking various measures to tackle air pollution in the National Capital Region. The tenure of the last EPCA expired on October 3.

"The Central government hereby re-constitutes the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority," an order issued by the Environment Ministry on October 3 said.

Biggest Ever Rescue Operation In Flood-Affected Kerala: Important Highlights

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has evacuated over 10,000 people from the heavy rains and flood waters affected areas of Kerala till now as it said it has launched its biggest-ever relief and rescue operation in the country till date.

The deadliest deluge in Kerala in close to a century has claimed 194 lives since August 8.

A total of 58 teams of the force have been deputed to work in Kerala out of which 55 are working on ground. Three teams are on their way, a spokesperson for the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said.

New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) A sophisticated weather forecasting system that will give out real time air quality index, advance forecasts and health advisories, was unveiled here today by Earth Sciences and Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan.

SAFAR (System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting), the first of its kind in the country, is located at Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi.

India increases grants to $15 million to handle global environment crises

Playing a crucial role to mitigate climate change and other environmental challenges across the globe, India on Tuesday announced it will increase for the next four years the money it pays to the Global Environment Facility (GEF), a mechanism to provide grants for environment projects.

India's representative to GEF Council Aparna Subramani made the announcement at its meeting in this Vietnamese city that will conclude on June 28.
