  • West Bengal government has decided to install monorail from Budge Budge in South 24-Parganas to Ruby Connector in Kolkata. The 14-kilometre-long monorail route will connect Budge Budge to Ruby via Taratala, New Alipore and Prince Anwar Shah Road
  • Railways Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu on 29 September 2016 launched various Railways Services and dedicated them to the nation. These Railways services are:

    • Liberalised station to station special freight rates policy.
    • Policy providing sub quota of 33% to women within reserved categories for the allotment in catering units.
    • Policy giving preference to local domicile holders for commercial licenses at stations.
    • New system of allocating vacant berths after final charting to wayside stations.
    • Launch of the new tag Train at a Glance 2016 and new Time Table effective from 1 October 2016.

  • India is going to invest 2 billion dollars in Sri Lanka in the next three-four years. It was announced by Union Minister for State (MoS) Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman during her visit to Sri Lanka. She had visited Sri Lanka for talks on the Economic and Technological Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) to discuss the terms of the agreement.

  • Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Telangana government on 28 September 2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide digital classes across the state through its state channel Mana TV.As per the MoU, the ISRO’s Development & Educational Communication Unit (DECU) will work with the state government to disseminate educational content using satellite technology.

  • Adani Green Energy (Tamil Nadu) Ltd on 21 September 2016 dedicated the world’s largest solar power plant of 648 megawatts to the nation.The plant has been set up with an investment of around 4550 crore rupees at Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu.

  • Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh laid the foundation stone of a Gokul Gram at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh for the conservation and development of native cattle breeds. On the occasion, he also announced setting up of 14 such Grams across the country as part of the Rashtriya Gokul Mission.Gokul Gram will work as a centre for development of native breed cattle and will also supplement resources of cattle farmers in breeding areas.

  • The Union Health Ministry has decided to launch Mission Parivar Vikas in 145 High Focus districts in seven states for improved family planning services. The Mission will be implemented in all the 145 districts at one go.Its main objective is to accelerate access to high quality family planning choices based on information, reliable services and supplies within a rights-based framework.

  • The first Druzhba-2016 (Friendship-2016) Russian-Pakistani joint military exercise commenced on 24 September 2016 in Cherat, Pakistan. The exercise will conclude on 10 October 2016.The drills are being conducted at the Pakistan Army’s High Altitude School at Rattu in Gilgit-Baltistan and at a special forces training centre at Cherat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 September 2016 approved the constitution of two committees for the commemoration of the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.Modi will head the 149 member National Committee while Home Minister Rajnath Singh will chair the 23 member Executive Committee.Former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and H.D. Deve Gowda, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Manohar Parrikar, former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani and BJP President Amit Shah are the members of National Committee.

  • US President Barack Obama on 23 September 2016 vetoed a bill that would have allowed the families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia. Earlier, the Justice against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) was passed by both the chambers of the Republican controlled Congress.As per President, the JASTA, would have jeopardized the long standing international principles regarding sovereignty and would have made adverse impact with US interests and nationals overseas.
