  • V L Dutt former FICCI president passed away

    Former Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) president V L Dutt passed away. He headed FICCI in 1991-92. He was the chairman of the India Vietnam Joint Business Council of FICCI. He graduated from the Business Institute of Management, London. He served as the chairman of The KCP Group of companies.

    V L Dutt was awarded an honorary degree of doctor of letters by the Nagarjuna University. The award recognized his outstanding contribution in the area of rural development, medical care, education, and industry. He also served as the honorary consul general of the Republic of Turkey in Chennai.

  • Computer scientist Larry Tesler passed away

    Larry Tesler, the computer scientist who introduced the cut, copy and paste commands passed away. The scientist was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1945, and worked in the genesis stage of computers in the 1960s, aiming to make them more accessible and intuitive.

    In 1973, Tesler joined Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) and this is where he developed to cut, copy and paste. These concepts were instrumental in the development of text editors and early computer operating systems.

  • Harry Greg the former Manchester United goalkeeper passes away

    The former Manchester United goalkeeper Harry Gregg passed away. He played 247 times for the club, including in a victory in the FA (Football Association Challenge Cup) match against Sheffield after the air crash in February 1958. He was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in the 2019 New Year Honours.

    Harry Greg, was named as “Hero of Munich” for rescuing 2 teammates as well as a baby and her pregnant mother in the 1958 air disaster that killed 23 people.

  • Mickey Wright the legendary golfer passes away

    Legendary women’s golfer Mickey Wright passed away. Her haul of 13 major victories included four US Women’s Open titles and four US Women’s PGA Championships. She had accumulated 82 titles of Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour titles during a professional career which stretched from 1954 to 1969. She won the 1954 World Amateur Championship before turning professional the following season. Her retirement in 1969 which came at the relatively early age of 34.

  • Former TMC MP and Veteran bengali actor Tapas Pal passes away

    Veteran Bengali actor and former Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal passed away. He made his debut in Bengali cinema at the age of 22 and shot to fame with his debut film Dadar Kirti, which was critically acclaimed, in 1980.

    Pal also worked in Bollywood films. He was also cast opposite Madhuri Dixit in his first Bollywood movies “Abodh”. He was a two-term MP from Krishnanagar and MLA from Alipore, Pal was one of the first actors to add sheen to the TMC with his star power in the 2009 assembly elections in West Bengal.

  • Veteran Journalist Nandu R Kulkarni passes away

    Veteran journalist Nandu R Kulkarni passed away recently. He was serving as the Mumbai bureau chief of “The Statesman” since 1992. He started his career in 1976 with ‘The Indian Express’ and worked there for 16 years. He reported on various subjects like economic offences, politics and business during his long career.

  • Padma Shri awardee Giriraj Kishore passes away

    Hindi novelist and Padma Shri awardee Giriraj Kishore passed away. He was best known for his novel ”Pehla Girmitiya” that was based on Mahatma Gandhi”s stay in South Africa. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India and was the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi award. He was also conferred the Vyas Samman in 2000, and an honorary PhD by Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University in 2002.

  • Veteran cricket journalist Raju Bharatan passes away

    Noted cricket journalist and film historian Raju Bharatan passed away. Bharatan, who wrote on Indian cricket and Bollywood music, worked for a weekly features magazine, The Illustrated Weekly of India, and an Indian films weekly newspaper, Screen.

  • American Author Roger Kahn passes away

    American Author Roger Kahn passed away. He wrote at least 20 books in his lifetime. In 1989 he collaborated with Pete Rose for the Biography of legendary Boxer Jack Dempsey before Jack gets banned from the game. His best-selling book in 1972 “The Boys of Summer”.

  • P Parameswaran passes away in Kerala

    Renowned thinker, writer and the founder director of Bharatiya Vichara kendram P Parameswaran passed away this morning at Ottapalam in Kerala.

    He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2018 and Padma Shri in 2004. His last rites will be performed in his home town Muhamma in Alapuzha this evening.
