    Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kailash Joshi has passed away. He was called as the ‘saint of politics’, served as the state’s chief minister from 1977 to 1978. He was MLA for eight terms and also served as a member of both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.

  • Former WB minister Kshiti Goswami passes away

    The General Secretary of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and former West Bengal Minister Kshiti Goswami passed away. Goswami was PWD Minister in Jyoti Basu and Buddhadev Bhattacharjee’s cabinet in the Left Front Government in the State.

  • Veteran actor Shaukat Kaifi passes away

    Veteran actor Shaukat Kaifi passed away. She is remembered for her roles in MS Sathyu’s Garm Hawa, Sagar Sathadi’s Bazaar and Muzaffar Ali’s Umrao Jaan. Her last film was the Vivek Oberoi-Rani Mukerji starrer Saathiya. Kaifi’s husband was the celebrated Urdu poet and film lyricist, Kaifi Azmi. Kaifi and Shaukat were leaders of the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) and the Progressive Writers Association (IWA).

  • Renowned mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh passes away

    Renowned mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh passed away. He was born in 1942 in Basantpur village of the Bhojpur district in Bihar, Narayan Singh was said to have challenged Einstein’s theory of relativity. He completed his PhD on cycle vector space theory in 1969 and served as a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur(IITK) and the Indian Statistical Institute(ISI), Kolkata. He was also a visiting professor at Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University, Madhepura, Bihar.

  • Sahitya Akademi awardee writer Nabaneeta Dev Sen passes away

    Sahitya Akademi awardee writer Nabaneeta Dev Sen died at her south Kolkata residence after battling cancer.

    Nabaneeta, 81, leaves behind two daughters. She had married in 1959 economist Amartya Sen, who won the Nobel prize in economics 1998.

    Padma Shri-awardee Dhrupad vocalist Ramakant Gundecha passed away. He was awarded the Padma Shri for 2012 in the field of Art – Indian Classical Music – Vocal along with his brother Umakant Gundecha. Dhrupad is a genre in Hindustani classical music from the Indian subcontinent and is related to the South Indian Carnatic tradition.

  • Former chief election commissioner TN Seshan passes away

    Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Tirunellai Narayana Iyer Seshan died in Chennai  following a cardiac arrest. He was 86.

    TN Seshan ruthlessly enforced the model code of conduct and led game-changing electoral reforms in the 1990s when he served as the 10th CEC from December 12, 1990, to December 11, 1996.

    Former Maharashtra minister Babasaheb Dhabekar died on November 12 after prolonged illness.

    Dhabekar was water resources minister when the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government came to power for the first time in the 1990s.

  • French Resistance member & Nazi camps survivor Yvette Lundy passes away

    Yvette Lundy, a well-known member of the French Resistance and a Nazi concentration camp survivor, has died at the age of 103.

    Authorities said she died on Sunday in the northern French town of Epernay.

    Ms Lundy supplied fake papers to Jewish families, men fleeing forced labour, and escaped prisoners of war during the Nazi occupation of France.

    In 2017, she was made a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, one of the highest civilian decorations in France.

    She also inspired a character in the 2009 French film Korkoro, which follows a Gypsy family under threat from the Nazis.

  • Retired judge of Madras HC, N.V. Balasubramanian passes away

    Justice N.V. Balasubramanian, retired Judge of Madras High Court passed away. He served as the Madras High Court judge from 1996 – 2007 & as the Chairman of committees on fixation of fee for self-financing professional colleges and polytechnics after retiring from service. He worked as senior counsel & arbitrator in Supreme Court (SC) of India for 11 years.
