Naveen Patnaik takes oath as Odisha CM for 5th term

Naveen Patnaik has taken oath as Chief Minister for the consecutive fifth time. 

Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal has administered the oath-taking ceremony at exhibition ground in Bhubaneswar today. 

11 Cabinet Ministers and 9 other Ministers also have taken the oath.

BJP leader Pema Khandu sworn-in as Arunachal CM

Pema Khandu was sworn- in as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for a second term.  

Along with Pema Khandu,  11 other ministers of the cabinet were also sworn in.  

Governor Dr. BD Mishra administered the oath of office and secrecy to the council of ministers.

PM Modi Embarked on 3-day Visit to Japan To attend Annual Bilateral Summit 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Tokyo on Saturday evening on a three-day tour to attend the 13th Annual India-Japan Bilateral Summit. 
Mr Modi will attend an informal lunch hosted by his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in the Yamanashi Prefecture tomorrow.  He is also scheduled to visit the automation and robotic firm FANUC in the industrial city facing Mount Fuji. 

Mahinda Rajapaksa Sworn In As Sri Lanka’s New PM 

Sri Lankan opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed prime minister on Friday after President Maithripala Sirisena dismissed the incumbent in a surprise move that threatens political turmoil in the South Asian country.

Rajapaksa took the oath in front of President Maithripala Sirisena shortly after the latter sacked incumbent Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani Visits India: Important Highlights 

On a visit to India, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani Ghani held closed door discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while the two sides discussed the security situation in Afghanistan and future Indian development projects.

Modi sought information on the seven Indians suspected kidnapped by Taliban. There has been no word of their rescue.

AYUSH Minister Inaugurates 4th International Ayurveda Congress at Netherlands 

The fourth International Ayurveda Congress (IAvC) aimed at promotion and propagation of Ayurveda will be inaugurated by Minister of state for AYUSH Shripad Naik in the Netherlands tomorrow.

The Minister is visiting the Netherlands from September 1-4 to participate in the Congress jointly organized by the International Maharishi Ayurveda Foundation, the Netherlands, All India Ayurvedic Congress, New Delhi, and the International Academy of Ayurveda, Pune, in association with the Indian Embassy in that country.

Defence Industrial Corridor Launched in Aligarh, UP

Defence Public Sector Undertakings have taken the lead in investing heavily in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor which saw the launching of projects for it here today, even as Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pushed the public and private sector towards focussing on exporting their products. 

The development comes even as UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the event stated that he requests Sitharaman to shift the venue of the biennial Aero India show from its traditional location in Bangalore to UP. He added that if this happens it would boost the corridor in the state. Sitharaman who was present for the event didn’t officially respond to the request. It can be recalled that ET has reported that while keeping an eye on the approaching elections the Centre is advancing the Aero India show by a year and will be shifting it to the Bakshi Ka Talab air station in Lucknow.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal Inaugurates Rajasthan's First Mega Food Park In Ajmer

Food Processing Industries minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal will inaugurate the first mega food park at Roopangarh Village in Ajmer, Rajasthan on Thursday. The Food Park is being set up at a cost of Rs 113.57 crore and will benefit around 25,000 farmers in Ajmer as well as neighbouring districts. 

The facilities being created at central processing centre (CPC) of this mega food park include cold storage, deep freeze dry warehouse for raw materials and for finished goods, silos and other related food processing facilities, says a government press release.

Parliament Passes Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill 2018 

To prevent big economic offenders like Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya from fleeing the country, the parliament on Wednesday passed the Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018.

The opposition, however, attacked the government for lacking will to stop such defaulters despite having several laws.

India, Uganda sign four MoUs in various fields

India and Uganda on July 24, 2018 signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in various fields including the areas of defence, diplomatic ties, cultural exchange and material testing laboratory.
The agreements were signed following the delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala.

Lok Sabha Passes Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill 

The Lok Sabha on Monday passed the Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Bill, 2017, which provides for allowing a court trying an offence related to cheque bouncing to direct the drawer to pay interim compensation to the complainant.

Replying to a debate on the bill, Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said: "There are 16 lakh cases of cheque bouncing still lying in subordinate courts and 35,000 cases are in higher courts."

Government Sets Up High-Level Committee To Check Mob Lynching 

Two high-level committees have been constituted by the central government to suggest ways and legal framework to effectively deal with incidents of mob violence and lynching, the Home Ministry said today. 

One of the committees is being headed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the other by Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba.

Govt. to allow spouses of Indian nationals to convert visa category even if married abroad

Spouses of the Indian nationals getting married abroad will no longer have to face difficulties in converting their tourist visa to dependent visa as the government plans to change existing rules.

The move came after the Philipino spouse of an Indian national, who married outside the country, faced difficulties in converting her tourist visa to X2 (dependent visa) as the existing visa rules did not permit to do so. The husband had complained to Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Turkey's Erdogan Wins Presidential Election, Extends 15-Year Reign

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared victory in a pivotal election Sunday, saying voters had "handed him" the presidency.

Supreme Election Council head Sadi Guven declared that 97.7 percent of votes had been counted and declared Erdogan the winner.

The election was one of the most consequential votes in years and saw a revitalized opposition unify to challenge the incumbent president, who has ruled Turkey for a decade and a half.

Seychelles Parliament Blocks Planned Indian Naval Base On Remote Island

Seychelles parliament will not ratify a pact allowing India to build naval facilities on one of the archipelago's islands, a top foreign affairs ministry official said on Friday.

The two countries signed an agreement in January to build military facilities on the remote island of Assumption, but the project quickly attracted criticism from opposition members of the tiny Indian Ocean nation's parliament and lead to public protests.

President Ram Nath Kovind approves Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir

The state of Jammu and kashmir has come under Governor's rule from June 20, 2018. Governor NN Vohra had forwarded a report to President Kovind for imposing Governor's rule in J&K under Section 92 of the Constitution, after holding widespread consultation with all the political parties. This will be the fourth time in the last 10 years that a Governor's rule is imposed in Jammu and Kashmir. 

United States withdraws from UN human rights council as criticism mounts over border policy

The United States announced it was withdrawing from the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday, dismissing it as a "cesspool of political bias" for its anti-Israel stance.
It marks the latest rejection of multilateral engagement by the Trump administration - following its exit from the Paris climate accords and the Iran nuclear deal - and comes a day after the UN's most senior human rights official condemned the US for separating children from parents at the border with Mexico.

India, Australia to deepen cooperation to combat terror

India and Australia have agreed to strengthen counterterrorism cooperation through measures such as regular exchange of information and sharing of best practices on countering violent extremism, the MEA said.
