’Break the Chain’ campaign launched by Kerala govt to combat coronavirus

The Kerala government has launched a mass handwashing campaign named ‘break the chain’ to combat coronavirus. The campaign aims to educate people about the importance of public and personal hygiene.

Under this campaign, the government has installed water taps at public spots such as at the entry and exit gates of the railway stations with hand wash bottles. The Kerala government also urging people to use hand sanitizers when they are outdoors. Sanitisers have also been made available in all offices.

World’s first commercial flying car PAL-V to be built in Gujarat

World’s first commercial flying car named ‘PAL-V Liberty’ will be developed in Gujarat, India. PAL-V stands for Personal Air-Land Vehicle. The PAL-V Liberty is a combination of a car and an autogiro, or gyroplane.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani between state Industries Principal Secretary MK Das and Carlo Maasbommel, vice president of PAL-V’s international business development. Dutch company PAL-V (Personal Air and Land Vehicle) will develop this car.

The PAL-V flying car, having two engines, can run at a speed of 160 kilometres on road and can fly at a speed of 180 km. The car can turn into a flying vehicle in just three minutes and cover a distance of 500 km on a full tank.

Mansukh Mandaviya launches ’Ropax’ ferry service in Maharashtra

Union Minister of State for Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya was launched ‘Ropax’ passenger ferry service between Mumbai and Mandwa, Maharashtra. The vessel, built in Greece, can carry 200 cars and 1,000 passengers and is capable of plying even during monsoon. The road distance between Mumbai and Mandwa is 110 kilometres. It can reach speeds of 14 knots and will complete the 18-kilometre sea journey in 45 minutes to one hour.

Manipur CM announces CMAST & CMAT scheme to encourage athletes & artists

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has announced the biggest ever scheme for the welfare of sportspersons and artists of the State. ‘Chief Minister’s Akhannaba Sanaroising gi Tengbang (CMAST)’ and Chief Minister Artist Sing gi Tengbang (CMAT)’ scheme would provide benefits to thousands of sportspersons and artistes of the State who have brought laurels to the State and Country.

Maharashtra approves renaming of Mumbai Central station

The Mumbai Central station is going to be renamed as Nana Shankarseth Mumbai Central railway station. The Maharashtra state government has approved a proposal for renaming the Mumbai Central station as Nana Shankarseth Mumbai Central railway station. The proposal will be shared with the Railways Ministry.

Nana Shankarseth was a Maharashtrian philanthropist and an educationist who contributed a lot for the development of Mumbai. He was the first Indian to be nominated to erstwhile Legislative Council of Bombay.

Microsoft launches website to track COVID-19

Microsoft has launched a web portal to track the spread of COVID-19 worldwide. The web portal has been launched by Microsoft’s Bing team. The portal aims to track the spread of novel coronavirus in the world. The website is accessible at “bing.com/covid” and provides up-to-date infection statistics for each country. A user can click on the country on an interactive map to see the specific number of cases of novel coronavirus infections in the country.

The web portal displays the information by aggregating data from sources like the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Bhawna Dehariya climbs Australia’s Mount Kosciuszko

Indian mountaineer Bhawna Dehariya has successfully scaled Mount Kosciuszko (2,228-metres), the highest mountain peak in Australia on the occasion of Holi. Dehariya had scaled Mount Kilimanjaro (5, 895 meters), the highest mountain peak in Tanzania on the occasion of Diwali in the year 2019 and also felt fortunate that she had celebrated 2 biggest festivals of India at the mountain peaks.

India’s 1st Living Culinary Arts Museum enters Limca Book of Records

Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) entered the Limca Book of Records (LBR) for establishing “India’s First Living Culinary Arts Museum” at WGSHA, Manipal, Karnataka. The museum was opened in the year April 2018, spread approximately over 25,000 square feet & the structure of the museum is shaped in the form of a giant pot.

Chef Vikas Khanna, the founder and curator of this museum, who had this idea of establishing a culinary museum and donated thousands of kitchen tools and equipment worth millions of dollars to this museum for preserving the history of India’s rich tradition of culinary arts and to educate the future generations.

The Museum consists of historical as well as household items such as plates made by the Portuguese in India, an old seed sprinkler, an ancient Kashmiri tea brewer known as ‘samovar’, a 100-year-old ladle used to dole out food at temples and bowls dating to the Harappan era. The vessels from the Konkan, Udupi & Chettinad regions, apart from a large collection of rolling pins, utensils of all shapes and sizes, tea strainers of different types etc. are found in the museum.

Google India starts skill development programme called ‘DigiPivot’

Google India has launched a skill programme for women called ‘DigiPivot’. The programme designed for women who are looking to return to their corporate careers after a break or simply planning to make mid-career shifts to digital marketing.

The skilling programme has been developed jointly in partnership with a career portal service: Avtar & and the Indian School of Business (ISB). The aim of the Programme to help the general gender mix within the digital advertising and marketing panorama in India and can offer an opportunity for 200 girls professionals to re-skill themselves.

The woman who’s at present working and those that are ready to return to the workforce with 4-10 years of expertise in consulting, analytics, branding and sales and support are eligible to attend this programme. The selected woman will undergo a curated 18-week studying program and engagement (each offline & on-line) that aims to empower them with digital advertising and marketing data and instruments in addition to mentorship on strategic management abilities.

‘COVA Punjab’ mobile app launched by Punjab Govt.

Chief Secretary of Punjab, Karan Avtar Singh has launched a mobile application, COVA Punjab. COVA stands for Corona Virus Alert. This app has been developed by the Department of Government Reforms and Public Grievances in consultation with the Health and Family Welfare Department to spread awareness by sharing various travel and preventive care advisories.

The app would inform people to check out for symptoms as provided by the government from time to time and follow the advisory given thereafter. The app also suggests the nearest hospital and nodal officer of the district where the patient can reach in case he/she is symptomatic. The app was available at Android Playstore and iOS app store with name COVA Punjab.

BEE launches star rating programme for Deep Freezer and LCAC

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) agency of the Government of India, under the Ministry of Power, has launched star rating programme for Light Commercial Air Conditioners (LCAC) and Deep Freezers, in its 19th foundation day in New Delhi.

The program will be initially launched involuntary mode from 2nd March 2020 to 31st December 2021. Thereafter, it will be made mandatory after reviewing the degree of market transformation in this particular segment of appliances. A deep freezer is used for food, fruits, Contains long-term preservation of vegetable-like substances. Light commercial air conditioners come with AC ranging from DSC (Digital Security Controls) Series 3-5 Tons.

Arunachal Pradesh assembly implements e-Vidhan project

The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly went paperless with the implementation of e-Vidhan, a project under the Digital India programme. With the implementation of the e-Vidhan project, MLAs can access every information regarding the Assembly, see the list of business and read questions and other documents pertaining to House proceedings through their laptops and tablet computers. The initiative will make all the proceedings in the house paperless.

The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is the unicameral state legislature of Arunachal Pradesh state in north-eastern India.  The Legislative Assembly comprises 60 Members of Legislative Assembly directly elected from single-seat constituencies.

Antar Rashtriya Yog Mahotsav begins in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

Antar Rashtriya Yog Mahotsav has been inaugurated in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Yoga teachers and practitioners from eleven countries are taking part in this week-long event. The ‘Yog Mahotsav’ is held in Rishikesh every year from March 1 to March 7.

Union declares National Chambal Sanctuary as eco-sensitive zone

The government of India declared the National Chambal Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh as an eco-sensitive zone (ESZ). The Sanctuary is the home of Gangetic dolphins and 75 per cent population of critically endangered species gharial. It also harbours 180 species of migratory birds and freshwater Gangetic Dolphins.

Being declared as Eco-Sensitive Zone, construction of resorts, hotels or other residential and industrial activities are prohibited. The Sanctuary begins in the Vindhyan Ranges, extends along the Chambal river and ends in Yamuna river. It is spread across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Jammu historic city square renamed as ‘Bharat Mata Chowk’

The historic City Chowk in old Jammu was renamed as ‘Bharat Mata Chowk’. A resolution in this regard was passed by the General house of the BJP(Bharatiya Janata Party)-led Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), after which it was done.

Every year people are hoisting the tricolour on Republic and Independence days in this chowk. Along with this, the starting point of the circular road near Panjtirthi in the city has also been changed to ‘Atal Ji Chowk’ in the memory of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela-2020 held in New Delhi

The Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela-2020 was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar in New Delhi.

The Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela featured the demonstration of Rabi crops, protected cultivation of flowers and vegetables, display and sale of farm equipments developed by ICAR-IARI and other Institutes and private companies. It also featured the sale of seeds and plants of improved varieties along with free testing of soil and water samples. The participating farmers as well as the visitors of the mela will be facilitated with the free health check-up during the occasion.

Om Birla launches ‘Suposhit Maa Abhiyaan’ in Kota

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has launched “Suposhit Maa Abhiyan” in his constituency Kota, Rajasthan. This Abhiyan is to provide nutritional support to pregnant women and adolescent girls.

Om Birla appealed to every section of the society to cooperate in the malnutrition-free India campaign. Under this Abhiyan, 1,000 pregnant women would be given food items for one month. At the same time, the health of the child, including medical examination, blood tests, medicines, delivery, would be covered. It is a campaign to preserve and maintain the health of our future generations.

Chilli Festival begins in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh unique Chilli Festival begins at Kasrawad in Khargone district. Chilli Festival is a big business opportunity for traders, investors and exporters. It will also help in fulfilling the Central Government’s goal of doubling the income of farmers.

Chilli-based cuisine stalls will also be set up on the occasion. Thousands of farmers from many districts of the state are participating in this festival being held in Kasrawad in Khargone district. State Agriculture Minister Sachin Yadav has said that the festival aims to promote the Nimari brand of chillies.

Nimar and Malwa regions are the highest chilli producing regions of the state. The red chillies of these regions are exported to China, Pakistan, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. This year too, 5 lakh 41 thousand 740 MT of green chillies and more than 63 thousand MT of red chillies have been produced in Dhar district.

Training of Nepal’s Judicial Officers begins in India

The first batch of 30 Judicial Officers from Supreme Court of Nepal have started their 7 day training on ‘Case Management and Court Management’ at the National Law University, Jodhpur in Rajasthan from Monday.

This is a tailor-made course specially designed at the request of Government of Nepal. The course will enhance capacity of participating officers to effectively deal with issues related to Case and Court management and use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the administration of Justice.  

Second batch of 30 Judicial Officers from Nepal’s Supreme will undergo training from March 23 to 29, 2020. This is a tailor-made course specially designed at the request of Government of Nepal.

The course is fully supported by the Government of India under Ministry of External Affairs’ Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme. As part of India’s continuing commitment for capacity building in Nepal, the Embassy of India in the current financial year has facilitated training of more than 200 Nepali officers in India’s prestigious training institutions like IIT-Roorkee; Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar; Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun; Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi and Indian Institute of Sciences, Bengaluru etc.

Indian Railways launches its 1st ”Restaurant On Wheels”

Indian Railways has launched its first ”Restaurant on Wheels” at the circulating area of Asansol railway station, West Bengal. This restaurant is for the use of passengers as well as the general public. The Restaurant on Wheels was developed by refurbishing two over-aged MEMU coaches.

This unique effort will not only improve the facilities at Asansol station but will also generate non-fare revenue earnings approximately Rs 50 lakh in the next five years. Union Minister and Asansol MP Babul Supriyo inaugurated the restaurant. He also inaugurated two new air-conditioned Retiring Rooms and Electronic Reservation Chart Display System and a battery-operated car at Asansol station.

Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers has organized “ACREX India 2020” at India Expo Mart Limited, Greater Noida. “ACREX India 2020” is largest exhibition of South Asia on Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Industry. This was the 21st edition of the exhibition which was witnessed by visitors from over 25 countries. The 21st edition of the exhibition focuses on indoor air quality, sustainable buildings and HVAC technology. The exhibition also acted as a valuable stage for all players which are connected to the HVAC industry.

A live exhibit titled “Shudh Vaayu Deergh Aayu” (Trans: Clean air, Long life) was also exhibited with regard to indoor air quality and clean air.

ISHRAE has also instituted “ACREX Hall of Fame” which will act as a benchmark for industry to honour iconic projects in India. It has also framed “ACREX Awards of Excellence” to award products and services across disciplines like innovation, green buildings, energy saving, green products, building automation etc.

Mumbai Airport launches ‘Export Cold Zone’ to Store Agro, Pharma Products

The Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) has launched the world’s largest airport-based temperature-controlled facility known as the ‘Export Cold Zone’ for processing and storage of agro and pharma products.

The exclusive terminal can hold over 700 tonnes of such cargo at one time with a combined annual capacity of 5.25 lakh tonnes. Mumbai airport, run by a joint venture between Airports Authority of India and GVK.

Mumbai airport is the largest gateway for the movement of pharma and agro products in the country. It connects to over 500 cargo destinations across 175 countries through 60 airlines. The export cold zone is equipped with 12 truck docks with dock- levellers, spacious acceptance and examination area, automated workstations, X-Ray machines, unit load device (ULD) storage, ballmat system for ULD transfer and cold rooms.

Mumbai airport is the first airport in the country and the third in Asia to obtain “IATA CEIV Pharma” accreditation, a global industry recognition supporting the air transport industry and is in full compliance with pharmaceutical manufacturers requirements.
