Govt. Arts & Science College, Calicut is the only government college within the territory of Kozhikode City Corporation. The college was started functioning at Govt. Training College, Mananchira, Kozhikode under the principalship of Prof. Karimpuzha Ramakrishnan on 10 August, 1964, as per Govt. Order MS No. 309/Edn. dated 29.07.1964, for satisfying the age long demand of educationists and political leaders of the region.

Sree Narayana College, Kollam is one of the earliest and the greatest centres of higher education in the whole state of Kerala. Affiliated to the University of Kerala, the College is managed by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam. Bearing in letter and spirit the name of Sree Narayana Guru (1854-1928), the great saint-philosopher, social reformer and mystic poet, the college was started in 1948 by S.N.D.P.
