The Govt. College Chittur was founded on August 11, 1947 in response to an increasing demand for higher education opportunities in the erstwhile state of Cochin.

Govt.College , Munnar, established in the year 1995 largely caters the educational heads of children of plantation labourers of Munnar and its nearby places. The college offers UG programmes in Mathematics, Economics, Tamil and B.com and PG programme in Economics. The College is bout 1,5 KM away from Munnar town and is located at Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway.

University College, Thiruvananthapuram (estd.1866) was built to impart English education to the common folk of the erstwhile Travancore by H.H. Sri Ayilyam Thirunal Rama Varma Maharaja.
