Sree Narayana College, Cherthala was established by Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam with the objective of providing higher education to the young men and women especially of the backward commmunities of the locality.

Sree Narayana College, Kollam is one of the earliest and the greatest centres of higher education in the whole state of Kerala. Affiliated to the University of Kerala, the College is managed by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam. Bearing in letter and spirit the name of Sree Narayana Guru (1854-1928), the great saint-philosopher, social reformer and mystic poet, the college was started in 1948 by S.N.D.P. Yogam and its able and inspiring leader R. Sankar (1909-1972) with 505 students at the Interm

Mahatma Gandhi College, the institution dedicated to the memory of the Father of the Nation was established in the year 1948 by the legendary social reformer Bharatha Kesari Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan.

The college started functioning with a student strength of 160 in two batches of pre-degree class of 80 each in 1975. In view of heavy rush for admissions more batches were sanctioned by the university in course of time.

The Govt. College for Women was established in 1920 with a clear mission to provide women with a modern, liberal education and thus to transform society and the nation. The college is still committed to the ideas of liberal education and recognizes the fact that times have been changed that it must adapt and evolve to keep up with the rapidly changing world.
