Sree Narayana College, Kollam is one of the earliest and the greatest centres of higher education in the whole state of Kerala. Affiliated to the University of Kerala, the College is managed by the Sree Narayana Trusts, Kollam. Bearing in letter and spirit the name of Sree Narayana Guru (1854-1928), the great saint-philosopher, social reformer and mystic poet, the college was started in 1948 by S.N.D.P. Yogam and its able and inspiring leader R. Sankar (1909-1972) with 505 students at the Interm

The Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (S.N.D.P) Yogam in 1946 resolved to establish a college at Kollam in obeisance to the great saint, philosopher and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, to provide better higher educational facilities, mainly for the backward classes of Kerala. The resolution came true when the Sree Narayana College was opened in 1948 as a mixed college.

The NSS College, Nilamel is one of the several colleges which came into existence as a result of the far-sighted vision of the late Padmabhooshan Bharatha Kesari Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan, the Founder and Visionary of the Nair Service Society.

The college is affiliated to the University of Kerala and was upgraded in 1978 St. Stephen's College was founded in 1964 after the name of St. Stephen, the first martyr of Christianity. The college was the fulfillment of a long cherished desire of its founder, His Grace The Most Rev. Mar Thoma Dionysius. A number of educational institutions testify the deep devotion of the founder to the cause of higher education in and around Kerala and Tamilnadu.

St. Gregorios College, Kottarakara is located in Gregorios Mount, a scenic and serene site of Pulamon in Kottarakara, Kerala State. The college was founded in 1964 as a junior college by His Grace Mathews Mar Coorilos, the Bishop of Kollam Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Church, who later became His Holiness Moren Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews II, the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan.

T.K.M. College of Arts and Science, established in 1965 by the TKM College Trust, is an acclaimed citadel of learning in the city of Kollam. Re-accredited by NAAC in 2013 with an ‘A’ Grade, which bears testimony to its potential for excellence, the institution today commands an unparalleled prestige in the academic community.

As early as in the beginning of the 20th century, the Diocese of Quilon established religious and educational institutions not only for Catholics, but all sections of society. But when the new dioceses of Kottar, Trivandrum and Punalur were carved out of the territory of the Diocese of Quilon, many institutions under its jurisdiction were handed over to the newly constituted Dioceses.

The college established August 1981 by the Government of Kerala meeting the long cherished dream of the natives of Chavara and its surrounding regions. It is located at Sankaramangalam around 14 Kms North of Kollam City, on the side of National Highway 47. It is the only Govt. College in the district Kollam. A team of socially dedicated personalities had strived hard to make this dream a reality.
